Volunteer Roles

Something for everyone

Our volunteers share their time and talent to support our clients along their journey towards life change. With over 10 teams, a variety of serving times, and no minimum time requirement, chances are there’s something perfect for you.

Hospitality

The hospitality team supports the hub of our daily work at CityLink, while providing a warm welcome to all individuals entering the CityLink Center. This team is knowledgeable about CityLink services and processes and engages all persons entering the center, creating an inviting and professional environment. This team serves as the face of CityLink. Your kind smile, hospitable demeanor, and ability to multi-task with many interruptions without becoming flustered lay the groundwork for welcoming everyone who walks through our doors.

Role Includes:

Client Interaction, Work with other Volunteers, Computer Skills needed

Available Serving Times

Open hours

4 hour shifts M – F 8 am – 4 pm

Medical Training Team

This volunteer team will be working side by side with clients in the classroom as they go through their medical training with Making a Change Cincy. The instructor will provide the curriculum and the volunteer will assist students in comprehension. Adding the personal touch of sharing your own experience in the medical field will help engage students and make curriculum relatable.

Role Includes:

Client Interaction, Work with other volunteers, computer skills needed

Available Serving Times

  • Classroom Support: Wednesdays 9am-12pm
  • Study Tables: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (afternoons)
  • 2-3 hour shifts

Vision Casting

Volunteers on this team have the opportunity to encourage and instill confidence in the lives of our clients. This support is critical to ensure the success of the clients as they continue to envision where they want their life to go after they complete their training at CityLink. Volunteers on this team should be comfortable using an online platform to help clients create their vision board.

Available Serving Times

Times will vary throughout the week based on the training schedule during the hours of 9am-4pm.

Construction Training Assistant

Experience Required
The Construction Training Team helps clients prepare for employment in construction by supporting the hands-on training portions of the class. The class will utilize the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Core Curriculum and a large portion of instruction is around hand tools, power tools, and material handling. Volunteers will support an instructor in teaching students safe and proper utilization of tools. This training will prepare students to start a career in construction with proper safety and equipment knowledge. We are seeking volunteers who have a mid to high level of experience with tools and construction.

2-4 hour shifts, M-F, between 8am – 12pm

Service Coordinator Support

The Service Coordinator Support (SCS) Team is a critical link in the onboarding of new clients to CityLink. Volunteers support clients as they provide demographic information used to develop a clients’ goals toward holistic stability. As a SCS volunteer, you get to lay the groundwork for establishing meaningful, one-on-one relationships with clients.

Role Includes:

Client Interaction, Work with other volunteers, computer skills needed

M 10:00 am – 11:30 am

W 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Nutrition Facilitator

The Nutrition Team helps clients learn about food nutrition, food preparation, and cooking tips as they prepare to enter the restaurant industry through the Culinary Training Program. 

Role Includes:

Client Interaction, Class Facilitation

Available Serving Times

Tuesday afternoons 2-3pm

Workforce Development

The Workforce Development Team helps clients prepare for employment by assisting with job search, resume development, the electronic application process, and mock interviews. Your support can make a big difference; these roles provide distinct opportunities to encourage and instill confidence in the lives of our clients.

2-hour shifts
M-F, between 9 am – 3 pm.

Automotive

The Automotive Team serves in ChangingGears by cleaning and repairing donated cars. These cars are used for parts, sold for funds, or sold to clients when they are purchase-ready. Through private transportation, clients can better access resources that allow them to achieve self-sufficiency.

Detailing
The Detailing Team washes and details donated vehicles to prepare them for sale. Because of the caring work of this volunteer team, on the day clients receive their hard-earned keys, they get to step into a sparkling clean vehicle. No prior experience is required.

Repair Team – Experience Required 
Volunteers on the Repair Team are contacted about current projects in the garage. If they choose to accept a project, they are expected to take ownership of it and help see it through completion with little supervision. As a result, volunteers on the Repair Team should be at a B-Tech skill level, feeling comfortable working on brake lines, suspension work, and basic repairs.

Workshop Facilitator

Workshop Facilitators support CityLink’s vision and mission by leading various finance and automotive workshops. SmartMoney Workshops help clients attain basic financial literacy, thus empowering them to make better financial decisions for themselves and their families. These workshops are a prerequisite for clients to access 1:1 financial counseling and ChangingGears. Workshop Facilitators also facilitate automotive workshops with existing curriculum on topics such as vehicle ownership and maintenance.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Per Scholas

Experience Required
Volunteers in the Per Scholas program,  tutor students, come in as a guest speaker, assist with resume writing and serve as mock interviewers. As such, ideal candidates assisting the Support/Network classroom must have a background in IT support, management, or education and be familiar with the CompTIA organization or credentials. If you’re interested in this team, you will be asked to submit a resume and credentials for review.

Role Includes:

M-F 9 am – 5 pm

Clothing Connection

The Clothing Connection Team helps clients select professional dress attire needed to wow potential employers during interviews. Volunteers in this role work one-on-one with CityLink clients who desire to further their aspirations by securing full-time employment. As a Clothing Connection volunteer, you can inspire, increase, and highlight our clients’ sense of value and worth.

The First Step

Help us get to know you a little better by filling out this form. During your on-site training, you’ll go on a tour of our building and get the training you need to start serving in your chosen volunteer role(s).

After completing the form, you will receive an email with your next steps! This will include creating your volunteer account and completing an e-module.

Attend Training Onsite and Get Started

During your scheduled onsite training, you will receive additional training to prepare you for the specific volunteer role(s) in which you are interested.
