Hakeema’s Culinary Career
by Salem Baer | August 13, 2019
“It’s only up from here,” shared Hakeema, recent graduate of Findlay Culinary Training program’s Foundations portion. Hakeema has completed the first four weeks of the training at CityLink, where, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, she was either in the classroom learning new techniques and sharpening her culinary math skills, or in the kitchen applying her knowledge to create beautiful meals. From there, she has begun her three-month paid internship at Social OTR, a non-profit restaurant operated by Findlay Market.
Before the Findlay Culinary Training Program, Hakeema worked as a stay-at-home mom. “The program has been so fun and has benefited me in more ways than I could have imagined,” Hakeema shared. “I’ve grown in time-management skills, resilience, and I’m really learning what it means to be a supportive team player.” Hakeema’s classmates agree; according to them, she is known for positivity and eagerness to help others in any way she can.
At the completion of her internship at Social OTR, Hakeema plans to advance to employment at a catering company where she can gain more experience and hopefully, learn more about baking. Be sure to catch her Social OTR before then and taste the sweetness with which she prepares every meal.
The next Findlay Culinary Training Program course begins on September 9th. There is no cost or previous experience required. Give us a call to get started! 513-357-2000
